The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce it has received approval from the Ministry of Education for renovations to St Andrew’s Catholic School in Killaloe.
Funds provided as part of the Ministry’s School Consolidation Capital Projects will increase resource room space for special education and high risk needs programs and reorganize administrative space.
“Our Board strives to ensure that all of our students have access to safe, secure, hospitable school environments to achieve their personal best,” says RCCDSB Chair Bob Michaud. “With this funding we will enhance safety and program supports for our newly consolidated student body at St. Andrew’s.”
The Madawaska Family Transitions Committee was established to ease the transition of students from St. Casimir’s Catholic School in Round Lake in September 2014, and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Wilno in September 2015.
The renovation plan includes relocation of the administrative offices to a classroom at the front entrance of the building, so the entrance is more visible to staff.
The existing administrative area will be converted into resource areas to support student-related needs.
The school currently uses the teacher resource room as a Snozelen Room, Special Education Resource Centre (SERC), for counselling, and for speech and occupational therapy, with some sessions taking place in the principal’s office.
“At this point we are very tight for space as all rooms are being used all day long,” notes Mary Catherine Brisco, St. Andrew’s Principal. “This renovation project will improve the daily running of our school.”
The work will begin over the summer and is expected to be completed no later than the 2015–2016 school year.
