Schools/Board Offices Open
Given that schools and other board offices will normally remain open during inclement weather and bus cancellations, all staff are expected to make every reasonable effort to attend work at their normal place of work during such events.
In the event of bus cancellations, severe road or weather conditions and the school or offices remain open:
- Staff are to make every reasonable effort to report for work
- Staff who, after making a reasonable effort, will be late or unable to attend work are to contact their Principal/Manager to discuss the rational for their lateness/absence
- If weather/road conditions improve on the day in question, staff are required to make reasonable efforts to attend work when conditions improve.
- Leave Request Form(s) are to be submitted to the Manager of Human Resources for absences of one-half day or more immediately following the absence due to bad weather/road conditions. Determination of whether the employee’s absence will be approved with or without pay is dependent on the circumstances at the time of the leave.
Each written request must include the following:
Name and home address of the employee
Name and address of workplace(school/office/facility)
Date and amount of time for each date being requested under these
Explanation of why staff were unable to report to work on the day in question guidelines
LATENESS
With the prior approval of the Principal/Manager, lateness of less than one-half day as a result of severe weather/road conditions will not be considered as an absence.
SCHOOL/BOARD OFFICES CLOSED
If the School and/or THE Board Offices are closed, staff will be notified of such through the normal communication channels in place at their respective school/office. When the school is closed, the employee is not considered absent and there is no requirement to complete a leave request form.
