The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board re-elected Bob Michaud as chair and David Howard as vice-chair at its inaugural meeting on December 7.
Michaud said priorities continue to be those outlined in the Board’s strategic plan—Christian maturity, life-long learning, stewardship and sustainability of the world we live in.
He restated a commitment to collaboration with partners to provide ongoing support and resources, and alignment with the Ministry of Education’s goals to increase student achievement, ensure equity, promote well-being and enhance public confidence in our schools.
Michaud said the Board would also “embrace the call from His Excellency, Pope Francis, to celebrate this Year of Mercy throughout our schools,” working closely with the diocese and clergy “to help our students and staff as they share the true meaning of mercy and unconditional love in their daily lives.”
Michaud thanked Dave Howard for nominating him, saying he looks forward to working with his fellow trustees and the administration team again this year. He shared some highlights for the year ahead, including the continued integration of technology in the classroom, a focus on Early Education concepts, and professional development for Special Education staff.
The Board will continue with strategies for effective mathematics learning, the Outdoor Education program in partnership with Shaw Woods, and the Destination Imagination program.
Other projects include renovations to St. Andrew’s School in Killaloe to improve safety and security for students and the development of the Human Resources attendance management program and Easy Connect to automate support staffing at all schools.
Vice-chair David Howard added his commitment to serving the Board over the next year to meet its priorities.
“As we work together on the many programs and projects that our Chair, Bob Michaud, has outlined, we are committed to providing our children with a safe, secure environment that promotes forgiveness, mutual understanding and unconditional love.”
Howard thanked parents, families, parishioners, Bishop Mulhall and clergy for their support and guidance, as well as the wider community, “which has worked in partnership with us on many projects, to enrich the lives of our students and strengthen their understanding of their role as citizens through social justice projects and stewardship programs, to name a few.”
This marks the third term for Michaud who represents Laurentian Valley Township, North Algona Wilberforce Township, Admaston Bromley Township and Bonnechere Valley Township, and Howard who represents Deep River, Laurentian Hills, Head, Clara & Maria Township and Petawawa.
In greetings on behalf of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association to the newly selected chair and vice-chair, Bob Schreader noted, “We are in good hands. Catholic education will continue to flourish under your leadership.”
