RCCDSB reassigns principals and vice-principals to meet shifting needs in 2019-2020

With just a few weeks left before the summer vacation, the RCCDSB is already gearing up for the 2019-2020 school year with the redeployment of vice-principals and principals.

“The redeployment of our principals and vice-principals helps our Board to respond to changing needs in our schools, as well as providing our school leaders with new professional opportunities,” said Director of Education Jaimie Perry.

Those being redeployed include Clint Young, who will become principal at St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School in Douglas. He replaces Mary Catherine Brisco, who is retiring. Young has served as principal at Bishop Smith High School (BSCHS) in Pembroke for six years, as well as two stints totalling seven years as vice-principal there. He also has been principal of St. James Elementary School in Eganville.

Brennan Trainor will take over the principalship at Bishop Smith after serving as principal at St. Joseph’s High School in Renfrew for eight years. Before that, Trainor was vice-principal at St. Joe’s for 3.5 years and at Bishop Smith for 6.5 years.

Derek Lennox will become principal at St. Joe’s High School after serving as principal at St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Arnprior for two years. He also has been acting principal at Our Lady of Lourdes in Pembroke for one year, as well as holding vice-principalships at BSCHS for 3.5 years, St. Joe’s High for three years and two years at St. Joseph’s in Arnprior.

The principalship at St. Joseph’s in Arnprior will be filled by Julie Huckabone, who has served as principal at St. Andrew’s Elementary School in Killaloe for two years. Before that, Huckabone spent 2.5 years as vice-principal at BSCHS.

Replacing Huckabone at St. Andrew’s is T.J. O’Grady, who has served as principal and acting principal and Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) at Our Lady of Grace in Westmeath since September 2017.

Julie Dumouchel, who is currently vice-principal and Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) at Our Lady of Lourdes in Pembroke, will become principal and SERT at Our Lady of Grace.

Kevin Walsh will replace vice-principal Dumouchel at Our Lady of Lourdes, leaving his year-long position as vice-principal and SERT at St. Francis of Assisi in Petawawa.

Sally Douglas, who has spent the last two years as vice-principal at BSCHS, will become vice-principal at St. Francis of Assisi, as well as SERT. Douglas had previously served as vice-principal at St. Anthony’s in Chalk River for 1.5 years.

In announcing the redeployments, Director of Education Perry congratulated RCCDSB team members on their new assignments, and added “I offer you my sincere appreciation for the flexibility and leadership that you all have demonstrated as we work to provide the highest quality of education in Renfrew Catholic.”

The revised slate of school leaders exemplifies “the strength of RCCDSB’s leadership team,” said Board Chair Dave Howard. “By working together, we continue to build a healthy environment for our students to achieve their personal success and meet the challenges of tomorrow,” said Howard.
