The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has been in a legal strike position since December 21, 2019. Catholic school boards received notification on January 8th that OECTA will engage in job action effective January 13, 2020. The details on job action are identified in an OECTA communique which can be found here.
At this point, this job action will impact Ministry of Education and school board initiatives only and will not have a direct impact on classroom activities.
The Board is still evaluating how the job action announcement will potentially impact grade 9 students who are scheduled to write EQAO tests between January 13th and 24th. We will communicate with families of grade 9 pupils about this as soon as possible. We continue to be hopeful that a central agreement can be reached shortly and we are striving to avoid making pre-mature decisions on activities such as the EQAO assessment.
Please continue to watch for further updates through your respective school communiques, the Board’s Twitter and Facebook pages and media releases.
We wish to stress that all Renfrew County Catholic District School Board schools will be open and operating with warmth, hospitality, good humour and joy on Monday, January 13th, 2020.
