Renfrew County Catholic District School Board Schools to close Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 due to Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) one-day withdrawal of services.
On January 13th the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) advised all Catholic school boards that it would be engaging in a 1-day full withdrawal of services on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020.
As a result, unless an agreement is reached prior to this date, all Renfrew County Catholic District School Board classes will be cancelled and schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st.
Under the School Boards Collective Bargaining Act, the Trustee Associations, including the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association, and Provincial Government negotiate at the Central (Provincial) level with the various Teacher Federations and Education Workers Union. We continue to hope that a provincial settlement will be reached shortly.
We regret any disruption to student learning or inconvenience to families that will result from job action. We do respect that the imposition of sanctions is a legal part of the collective bargaining process. Our actions during any sanctions will focus on the safety and well-being of the students entrusted to our care.
We will endeavour to communicate promptly as information becomes available on the Board’s social media platforms (Twitter, Board Website, Facebook) and through media releases as information becomes available to us.
