The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board wants to thank students and families for the work you have done to keep learning happening while our schools remain closed. On April 6th, we asked you to participate, to the best of your ability during this very difficult time, in our attempt at emergency distance learning. RCCDSB teachers, principals, vice-principals and support staff have worked hard at our initial priority, which was to get as many of our students as possible up and running in the Google Classroom environment. You have responded with both energy and also nervousness as we know your work does not take the place of the classroom and school environment. We understand. We are committed to doing our best to listen as we go further with the distance learning tools at our disposal. At the same time, our number one priority remains the safety of students and staff in order to halt the spread of COVID-19.
Given that reliable internet access in Renfrew County varies from community to community, we wanted to update you on some recent and next steps in our efforts to reach everyone and keep learning happening:
- Broadening of our Wifi network at our schools so that they could be accessed from school parking lots.
- Delivery of devices such as Chromebooks and iPads to students.
- Upcoming delivery of hard copy learning resources to students who learn best through those means.
- Upcoming loan of Wifi hubs to those without internet service who can’t travel to a parking lot.
Please continue to stay safe and stay home as much as possible. Continue to take care of one another. We ask you to continue to especially pray for people affected by COVID-19 and for our health care and essential workers.
Finally, please help us get the word out. We are open for virtual registration. Please go to the RCCDSB website at https://rccdsb.edu.on.ca/ and follow the link for more information about the registration process.
